From Bolzano by following the road of Mendola you come to San Michele / Appiano. At the ring road, near the junction to Lake Monticolo, you reach the square in front of the winery from where the cycle path. (Parking, Hotel - Restaurant)

A short walk through vineyards and orchards, on the route of the train from Bolzano to Caldaro. The stretch between Appiano and Caldaro was made for cycling and walking. It is closed to traffic, half of the road is asphalted and half of the road has a natural foundation. Along the wide path there are many facilities for children. At about half route, the inn "Christl im Loch" offer refreshments. You can extend the walk to the church of Calvary in Caldaro.

Description

The path winds with sinuous pattern and is almost flat (in some cases on bridges and in part on the edge of the Valley Lavason). From the square of the winery of San Michele / Appiano (410 m) , follow the cycle path that runs along the road to Mendola and that leads to the Kreuzwegerhof.
Exceeded the Handwerkerzone (410 m) , continue in the forests of beech and oaks to the small convent of Kreith. After a few play areas you exit the woods near the restaurant "Christl im Loch" (415 m) . Among the vineyards and orchards you reach the village of Caldaro in the area of the winery. At the end of the walk, you can look at an old steam locomotive .
Who wants to continue the route, can go along to the winery, the "Neue und Erste Kellerei" and take the road which lies between Mount Calvary and the village. It goes down the street to the "Via Bersaglio" and after a brief climb, close to a capital, take the "Via Crucis". Following the road to the natural background, you reach the church of Calvary (435 m) , passing close to many chapels with statues depicting the passion of Christ. Return on the same itinerary.
NOTE: The itinerary can also be started at the locomotive. Close to the wineries of Caldaro it is easy to find parking.
