The picturesque city Bressanone (Brixen), at a height of 560 m above sea level, is situated in a wide green basin, the climate is mild and the lush vineyards and orchards nearly reach into the city.
The oldest town in Tyrol offers precious art treasures, picturesque arcades and a beautiful cathedral square.
Moreover Bressanone is the headquarters of the Cusanus Academy and a branch of the Free University of Bolzano.

The main attractions are the parish church St. Michael, the Mary Assumption church and the free cathedral cloister that is seen as the most important monument of Alpine wall paintings with paintings reaching from the late Romanesque to the late Gothic era, an excellent masterwork of the School of Bressanone.
Many nice town houses go back to the late Gothic era, the treasures of the diocesan museum are housed in the Renaissance garden of the bishop palace.

Paths and trails through the mountains around Bressanone also lead you to historically interesting sights, like the church St. Nicholas in Cleran and the church St. Jakob in Meluno, both have a beautiful fresco cycle of the School of Bressanone.
The city centre offers an interesting pharmacy museum and a permanent exhibition of instruments of torture.

The town also has a vast sporting and recreational offer, wellness & swimming in the adventure indoor pool Acquarena, bike riding and walking along the river Isarco, riding, tennis, etc.
The nearby mountain Plose is a great ski resort in winter with great slopes for skiers and snowboarders and a tobogganing run, ideal also for children.
