Glorenza
(Glurns) lies at 907 m above sea level and is surrounded by walls and gates and is the smallest town in South Tyrol and the whole of Italy with its 850 inhabitants.

Glorenza was proclaimed a town by Otto of Carinthia in Tyrol in the year 1304, it was an important trading centre for bringing ores and salt to the Austrian town of Innsbruck and to the Italian region Lombardia.

In 1499 the town was totally destroyed by the inhabitants of the Swiss Engadin.
It was then rebuilt and maintained as we see it now, a beautiful little medieval town with seven towers, three town gates and an impressive town wall.
Visitors are always fascinated about the picturesque aspect of the town.

Worthwhile visiting are the Münster gate in the south west, the Gothic church of St. Pancratius (on a hill outside the town wall), the arcades and the beautiful town square surrounded by historic houses. In the sourroundings of Glorenza you can go for beautiful walks and enjoy the characteristic landscape of the Val Venosta valley.
