Holidays in Lana & Foiana

Lana - Foiana

The nice holiday village of Lana lies at 289 meters above sea level and is situated at the foot of the mountain Monte S. Vigilio, surrounded by vineyards and apple fields.
The principal sight is the old parish church Assumption in Lana di Sotto, one of the most beautiful late-Gothic churches in South Tyrol. Its famous Gothic wing altar of Hans Schnatterbeck is the largest Gothic carved alter in the Alpine area.
The little Romanesque church of St. Margaret with precious frescos of the year 1215 stands on a hill above Lana di Sotto. Close by, the pomiculture museum can be found.
A particularly nice walk goes along the so called "Waalweg" Lana-Marlengo (along the irrigation canal) to the picturesque castle Monteleone with a beautiful atrium, above the village Cermes.
You should not miss a cablecar trip to the car-free mountain Monte S. Vigilio (1.486 m), offering a magnificent view. From the mountain station a chairlift goes up to 1.824 m. In winter it also offers small ski lifts.
The Gaul gorge offers an interesting walking path leading through the ravine.
The ruin Mayenburg belongs to the village Foiana (Völlan) that lies at 702 meters above sea level, its 23 m high keep belongs to the nicest in the whole of South Tyrol. A peasant museum exhibits historical tools and installations.
