Holidays in Monte San Pietro
Monte San PietroThe tranquil holiday village Monte San Pietro (Petersberg) lies at 1.389 m above sea level and is embedded in the beautiful landscape of a sunny high surface with scattered mountain farmhouses. In summer you can discover the enchanting surroundings on easy walks & hikes with low differences in height. In winter the mount San Pietro forms a practice slope for children, there are also 10 km long cross country ski runs and trails for extended snowshoeing hikes. Monte San Pietro is connected to the Ski Center Obereggen - Latemar through a free ski bus. From a cultural and historical point of view the pilgrimage church Pietralba above Monte San Pietro is very important. It is the most important place of pilgrimage in South Tyrol and is visited by hundred thousands of people every year. In the middle of the 16th century a farmer is said to have found a statue of the Virgin Mary, from then onwards it has been venerated. The enchanting Baroque church and the attached monastery are enthroned on a hill and surrounded by fields and forests, therefore it is a popular excursion point with a wonderful view over the Dolomites. The pilgrimage church has ceiling frescos of the Viennese theatre painter Joseph Adam Mölk. In a special room many votive paintings are collected that are interesting from a folkloristic point of view. |
