The popular holiday village S. Leonardo (St. Leonhard) lies at 693 m above sea level in a very sunny basin open towards the south, embedded in meadows and spruce forests.

It is the main village and most important tourist resort of the Val Passiria valley. Nice hotels invite you to hike and relax in this unique landscape.

S. Leonardo is the home of the famous Tyrolean Freedom fighter Andreas Hofer who was born here in 1767. Therefore the MuseumPasseier – Andreas Hofer at the Sandhof in S. Leonardo  are culturally very important.
It comprises an Andreas Hofer area, an open-air area and a folklore area.

The ruin Castel Giovo is enthroned above S. Leonardo, its keep is accessible to the public as it is an outpost of the museum Passeier.
A special feature of the Val Passiria valley are the shield farms,  whose owners were obliged to provide military service.

The relatively wide landscape with low differences in altitude are ideal for easy walks but also long excursions.
Along with the walking paths and cycle tracks along the river Passirio, an 18-hole golf course, a modern swimming pool, tennis courts and a riding stable with Haflinger horses of the area of Avelengo, the village offers diversified recreational activities.

The Hirzer cable car departs in Saltusio and brings you to a magnificent hiking area and in winter the skiing areas of Plan and Racines on the Passo Giovo pass, that are quite close, offer a magnificent skiing holiday in.
