Catinaccio - Latemar
Holidays in Collepietra
CollepietraThe small village Collepietra (Steinegg) at 830 m above sea level is situated on a sunny hillside amidst the wonderful Rosengarten – Latemar area. It is only 13 km away from Bolzano, but being 500 m higher than the city it offers a magnificent scenery onto the basin of Bolzano. Collepietra has an ideal position for watching the stars, therefore South Tyrol’s first and only star observatory was established here. Together with the sun observatory in Obergummer it offers the possibility to all people interested in astronomy to receive a professional tour. An easy 8 km long circuit path complements the observatory. The earth pyramids above Collepietra are also worth seeing, they are remnants of the last glacial period. Because of its very tranquil position and the relatively mild climate this little mountain village is a perfect place to pass a relaxing holiday. There are many hiking trails going through the intact nature of the area. Worth seeing from a cultural and historical point of view is the museum of local history of Collepietra, one of the most interesting historical museums in South Tyrol with exhibits of the peasant life. During the construction phase of the new parish church a cavity developed accidentally, now it houses the museum and the resurrection chapel. |
