Valle Aurina - Tures

Holiday Area Valli di Tures & Aurina

Holidays in Valli di Tures & Aurina

The holiday region Valli di Tures e Aurina valleys (Tauferer Ahrntal) begins to the north of Brunico where the basin of Brunico goes over into the Val di Tures valley.

The Val di Tures valley becomes tighter behind the castle Tures and changes its name to Valle Aurina valley at this point. The Aurina valley is the most northern valley in South Tyrol and goes up to the glacier region of the Zillertaler Alps and the Venice Group.

In the village Selva dei Molini, the valley is very wide and flat, where the Valle di Selva dei Molini valley with the artifical lake Neves branches off to the west. Behind Selva di Molini lies the largest holiday village of the Valli di Tures e Aurina region, Campo Tures.

To the east of Campo Tures the Val di Riva valley opens up, it goes from Riva di Tures to the mountain peaks of the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina (3.435 m).

The Val di Riva valley with its thermal wells, the Tures waterfalls (Reinbachfälle) which are the biggest in South Tyrol and the farmhouses on the steep hillsides, is the starting point of the Francis of Assisi path.

The Valle Aurina valley begins to the west behind Campo Tures and goes up behind Lutago (where also the Riobianco valley branches off to the west), over San Giovanni and Cadipietra.

In Cadipietra copper ore was stored, that was mined further back in Predoi (1.437 m) and smelted in Luttago. The mining was stopped in 1894, from then onwards the families earned their living through wood carving and lace making.

Nowadays the Climate Shafts in Prettau (Klimastollen Prettau) serve as cure-therapeutic shaft for asthmatics. A mine railway takes you down 1.100 m into the mountain, here visitors can enjoy the dust and allergen free ambience with a constant humidity and temperature.

The holiday region offers easy walks and excursions for families and older people, a nice cycle track connects the villages.

The hikes into the nature park Vedrette di Ries-Aurina are especially beautiful.
The nature reserve comprises unique glaciers, mountain lakes and waterfalls and has the highest amount of Swiss stone pines of the eastern Alps.
The nature park is one of the biggest nature reserve compounds in Europe because it borders onto the national park Hohe Tauern and the quiet area of the Zillertaler Alps. The union to this gigantic nature preserve guarantees the irreplaceable habitat of flora and fauna.
The Nature Park House in Campo Tures informs visitors about the characteristics of the nature park.

The basin around Campo Tures has many easy walks and hikes for families and older people.

Also in winter the holiday region Valli di Tures e Aurina offers many recreational activities, the most important being the ski resort Aurina, connecting 18 lifts and over 45 km of slopes, toboggan/sledging runs and wonderful cross country skiing runs. A paradise for skiers, snowboarders, cross country skiers and hikers.
There is a free and regular ski bus that takes you from the ski resorts Monte Spicco to Monte Chiusetta and the other villages.
