Train station of Lagundo (Algund)
|
The train station of Lagundo is well accessible and has a toilet that is very accessible for disabled people. The train route from the train station of Merano to this first stop is quite short with a distance of 1,6 km, so that Lagundo has nearly grown together with Merano. The village centre with the new parish church lies at a distance of about 400 m. About 50 m away from the station, on the main road, is the bus stop of the SAD line 101 (Merano - Silandro - Malles) and SASA lines 11 and 12 that connect Lagundo with Merano (busses of the lines 11 and 12 are partly equipped with retractable ramps and have reserved places for passengers in wheelchairs). In summer the so called "Village Express" takes you directly from the train station to the chairlift station Vellau-Leiteralm every full hour. The holiday resort lies in a very sunny area at 320 – 350 m above sea level, surrounded by vineyards and orchards. The new parish church of Lagundo in the village centre is definitely worth a visit, it is one of the most beautiful churches in the Alpine area. The village has nice cafes and a covered fairground that regularly hosts music events of every type. The "Algunder Waalweg" path along an irrigation canal, above sunny vineyards, offers a lovely view over Merano and its surroundings. This panoramic path is connected to the Tappeiner Promenade at the eastern end, at the western end it takes you to Tel. The promenade is about 6 km long and is one of the most famous and popular "Waalweg" paths in South Tyrol. Over Castle Thurnstein and San Pietro you reach the Castle Tyrol and the picturesque Castle Fontana.
