Train station of Sluderno (Schluderns)
|
The train station of Sluderno is very accessible and has a toilet adapted to the needs of disabled people, nevertheless the toilet is only accessible with assistance, due to the missing manoeuvring space. The track from Spondigna to the station of Sluderno (919 m a.s.l.) is about 3,8 km long. Directly in front of the station a very well accessible ramp takes you to a SAD bus station of the line 101 (Merano - Silandro - Malles) and to the 200 m distant village centre. The castle Coira is enthroned high above the village with its late-Gothic arcade with its marble columns and excellently maintained frescos of the late 16th century and the armoury which is a private collection and one of the most complete and precious ones in the whole of Europe. On the so called Ganglegg hill behind Sluderno a prehistoric settlement was found which can be visited as archaeological park. The findings of this settlement are from the Bronze and Iron Age, they are exhibited in the Vintschger Museum in Sluderno, this museum is accessible for visitors in a wheelchair with assistance, by means of a lift at the back of the building. Worthwhile visiting is also the 2,5 km distant town Glorenza, the smallest town in South Tyrol, with 700 inhabitants. This beautiful little medieval town with seven towers and three town gates is surrounded by an impressive town wall.
