The holiday resort Chienes (Kiens) lies at 800 m above sea level and is formed by the districts Chienes and Casteldarne.
It is situated in the lower Val Pusteria valley, surrounded by pastures and forests.

In the south in Casteldarne the picturesque castle Casteldarne stands on a hill.
The castle is composed of two parts: the old, hardly modified part against the south and the Baroque building against the east, that was renovated in the 17th/18th century.
The pompous halls with ceiling paintings, timber panels and the arcade court in Renaissance style are very impressive.

Next to this we find the Baroque parish church with an interesting crypt. On its altar stands the Grain Madonna that is visited by many pilgrims.

The parish church of San Sigismondo has the oldest and most important wing altar in South Tyrol. Its construction was later used as a basis for many Gothic wing altars.

Castle Schöneck, the birth place of the poet Oswald von Wolkenstein, is also very important.
