Holidays in Dobbiaco in Val Pusteria
DobbiacoThe holiday resort Dobbiaco (Toblach) at a height of 1.240 m above sea level has a tourism tradition that dates back over one hundred years. For peers and the bourgeoisie, Dobbiaco was the epitome for recreation befitting the rank. Here Gustav Mahler composed his last two symphonies. Every year the Gustav Mahler music weeks are organized to commemorate him. In the centre of the old part of the village some of the atmosphere of the historical village has been maintained: the parish church with its picturesque late-Baroque ceiling frescos and altar represents the starting point for Tyrol’s oldest Via Crucis, composed of five Via Crucis chapels. To the south of the Dobbiaco saddle the hotel development new Dobbiaco is situated: the striking building is the Grandhotel of the 19th century from which Dobbiaco received its reputation as a tourism resort. This noble hotel has been refurbished not long ago and now houses a cultural and convention centre and an interesting Nature Park House. In Carbonin Vecchia you can still find the composition house in which there is a small exposition of the works of Gustav Mahler. Close by there is a game preserve that is especially exciting for children. At the cross country skiing centre you can find an adventure park for the whole family: the installation is made of wire ropes and nets hanging between trees with elements to test one’s skills. Apart from the many hiking tours in the surrounding valleys, amongst others, an artificial ice rink, a biomass nature trail and a display cheese dairy offer many possibilities of recreational activities. |
