Walking & Hiking in South Tyrol

Idea and objective of the guide

The beautiful scenery of South Tyrol is well known and appreciated throughout the world. Many people, residents or not, love hiking and walking in our area. There are many guidebooks to promote this interest. Unfortunately most of the routes are only suitable for people that can move freely and with ease, therefore excluding many people from this possibility. For this reason the idea of a project was born that aims to make the mountains of South Tyrol accessible to people with limited mobility, such as the elderly, families with small children, people that are in a wheelchair, etc.

This guide is the first part of the project, the publication of other routes is expected. The routes have all been tested and the information is reliable.

The maps are supplemented by essential information. Those that move with difficulty find the additional information useful (for example the slope, the texture of the soil, the possibility of rest and refreshment) to find the best of all the routes and itineraries and to choose the outing most suitable to your needs.

Disclaimers

These routes are offered to people who, despite having problems walking, want to live the moments in contact with nature and the Alpine environment of our region.

In the proposed itinerary, we tried to focus on a journey on forest roads with normal road width: the proposed paths have a width that is larger than one and a half meters. The road is usually good but forest work, excavations, drainage channels and other difficulties could not be forseen at the time of drafting the proposals. The period of execution is highlighted in lime, but it is always worth remembering that we are in the mountains and changing weather conditions are common and not always predictable.

You are advised to bring warm and waterproof clothing with you, for every occasion. We believe you must always be accompanied: a small mechanical accident could have serious consequences, or lead to annoying inconveniences, if you are not able to be rescued quickly. We have, where possible, information on points of rest. Unfortunately not all the tourist facilities have eliminated the barriers and with this guide we can maybe also contributie to greater awareness.
