Starting point

From the motorway exit of Bressanone follow the road of the Val Pusteria valley to Monguelfo. Just above the village, turn right onto the road to Braies and follow the signs to Braies Vecchia - Ponticello and Prato Piazza. You park just before the sign "prohibition of transit". The stretch between Ponticello and Prato Piazza (parking) is limited to traffic from mid July to mid September: a shuttle bus service runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Type of trip

The route is located in the heart of the natural park of Fanes - Senes - Braies and allows you to enjoy the exceptional panorama of the Dolomites. Except for the stretch that leads to the Rifugio Vallandro, the path is flat. In the vicinity of the refuge are the remains of a fort dating back to the First World War, which recall the events that have written the history of these places.

Description

From the car park of Prato Piazza (1980 m) , go up a short asphalted road. After the sign banning cars, a forest road leads to the refuge Prato Piazza and the nearby Hotel Croda Rossa (1991 m) . Continue across the vast pastures, situated between the Croda Rossa and the Peak of Vallandro, up to a gate and the junction that leads to Malga Vallandro (2000 m) . After passing the gate, continue on the flat road, which leads to a crossroads, then go down to the hamlet Carbonin in Valle di Landro (2000 m) . Turn left and after a stretch of marked slope, go up to the Refuge Vallandro (2040 m) . The view of the Eastern Dolomites is splendid, from Cadini di Misurina, to Popena, to Cristallo d'Ampezzo. Follow the same itinerary to get back to the car park.
